Artie's Locksmith

I opened a Yelp account because I feel so disheartened and saddened by taken advantage of a business like this. I read through the reviews and I was even more sad to learn that other, hard working people, going through a pandemic were also being taken advantage of. A lot of people similar to me, were not given a price estimate and charged a ridiculous rate only after the service was done is not right.

It would be better if they broke into my house and stole money from my wallet because that's what it felt like. There are many locksmiths in this neighborhood, do not go to this business. I feel taken advantage of and scammed by this business, my door locked while outside for the first time and without a key to enter my door. Being desperate, I saw a sponsored as for this business I contacted this locksmith.

I was never given a quote on the phone. However, average prices for this neighborhood are less than half for what I was charged. they came within 30mins to open my door but mentioned nothing about pricing and kept adding services without explaining what each service was meant for. I was not able to decline any service or to know if this is within my budget.

I get an invoice after for $560 for emergency service, open door and cylinder. I am so appalled that in a time of need my hard earned cash has been taken like this for 10 minutes of work to simply open my door. This is highly unfair and I feel like this isn't ethical during this time of covid where everyone has financial stress to charge $560 without prior notice and services which make no sense. I would not recommend this business.

I was locked out of my apartment and they came really quickly and they had really good prices for everything thank you I highly recommend them there the best I will call them for locksmith service all the time

My recommendation is to not use the service from this place because the technician will fool you by making a big deal of a job by saying its very complex, charges heavily and then finishes the job in 5 mins. I don't recommend "professionals" who like to run their business by taking advantage of other people's lack of knowledge.

Installed our lock incorrectly the first time, causing the lock to jam and locking us out for 4.5 hours. When someone finally came to fix the mistake, they were hours past their time slot. When I called to see where the locksmith was, they said that he had arrived, but then it was another 40 minuets until he actually got here. The actual locksmith that came was nice and helpful, but the company as a whole is very frustrating to deal with.

Somehow took the wrong keys with me and the technician was really helpful-came over within 15 minutes despite covid and was very professional and understanding. The whole experience took away the stress that I was starting to feel before I called them. I would definitely recommend them!

Got locked out of my apartment and I was freaking out. Called these guys and they were super helpful. Got to my place in 20 minutes and finished the job in about 20 minutes also. Ben was super friendly and gave me a reasonable price. Definitely calling them if I ever have any other problems

Critical: Professionalism, Quality, Value Don't even waste your time. I had them changed my locks and not even a month went by and the key got stuck I called them and they had no recollection of what they did. They said it never happened. Eilay was amazing! He came after he was already home to let me into my apartment because it was an emergency. He was extremely kind and talked me through what had happened to my lock and was incredibly efficient with his repair. He was calm and helpful and answered all of my questions- definitely would recommend using his services!

We have a chocolate business in 104 w 14th street I was stuck and Adam the techni come in 14min and help me to get in and change for me the locks in the store for a good price This guy and this company make my day Happy to get they professional service!

UPDATE: I got a call from Ben who explained that it was an outside contractor that came to my home, that sometimes after hours they use freelancers. He is willing to make good on this job and give a partial refund, so I am feeling better about Artie's as a business. I called in the evening to have someone look at a broken deadbolt. The guy on the phone could not give me a solid quote but said a new deadbolt is around $150-$175.

What he didn't tell me was the exorbitant price for labor. The guy showed up promptly and was very nice - took a very long time to install the new deadbolt and now though it works fine, my door is harder to open and close so I don't think it was aligned properly. But the worst part is he didn't give me an exact quote till my deadbolt was removed, thus leaving me no choice but to pay a SKYROCKETED fee from what I was quoted on the phone.

I feel robbed and am extremely disappointed in what I thought was a long time neighborhood business. I'm thinking this is not the same people as when Artie's Hardware was open.

Called for estimate. I asked prices; they prefer to tell you when they get here. I asked for estimate to just replace cylinder. 175.00 to 275.00. I wonder how much to re-thread lock, put in high security cylinder, new doorknobs and security bar? $350 or more, probably. Sounds like they take advantage of the stress and pressure. Which is ok, if you have no economic worries I ended up using Aero lock---change cylinder price (not estimate): standard $125, high security $140.

They arrived in 30min, changed the cylinder, AND re-threaded the stripped lock (saved me 100+), AND replaced doorknobs, AND put a security bar on door frame for 220.00 total. In short, Artie's seemed about sales pressure. Better get a licensed professional and great prices. Artie's: I'm sorry to warm people away, I do wanna save them money.

Beyond horrible experience! Wish I could give a negative rating! I requested to have a lock rekeyed and they did not disclose the rekeying criteria until they arrived onsite. Then, after I ok'ed the purchase of the new lock set, the technician took 4.5 hours to install at a total cost of $880! I checked local home improvement stores and the same lock is $50/set.

But it gets better! After all that time and money, the lock installed was done incorrectly - it was literally put in backwards! They came out to fix it but said the it was fine. When I brought out a different contractor to install a security system, he could not even install it because the lock technician used the wrong lock, wrong door handle and installed it improperly.

I had to pay for someone to fix their mistake. When I contacted them, they said they would refund all the labor and lock charges for the door. I have documentation of their admission of negligence and yet their accounting department would only refund $50! And people wonder why we are such a litigious society - people like this are why. Don't make the mistake I did and call these guys. There are better options out there.

Guy was wonderful and extremely diligent. I made an appoint and he was exactly on time. I needed my mailbox lock replaced after I lost my key. Guy was able to remove the lock and install a new one quickly and made sure to clean up after. I am super thankful and would happily recommend! Super easy and painless.

Guy on the phone was super nice and when he heard where I lived, said he'd have his guy call me and come over within 15 minutes.

I asked for a an estimate on the phone which he couldn't really give not knowing the situation yet but he gave me a ballpark price for a new deadbolt. Guy calls, comes right away, is super nice, says he needs to take the lock off to see what's wrong. Doesn't give me a quote till after he took the entire thing off so now I'm kind of stuck.

I agreed to a new deadbolt and cylinder and keys because what am I going to do? We're in the midst of coronavirus distancing and I can't deal with stress right now. And I really didn't want even more people coming to my apartment. It took him a long time to get the lock changed. Not sure if it was perfectionism or inexperience. Kept tightening and then removing.

I appreciate how thorough he was in testing it. The quote was horrific and WAY more than the guy on the phone told me. I'm feeling like I fell for the locksmith scam. I'm wondering if this guy even works for Artie's or if this job was outsourced. At the end of the day, my lock was changed so I got the service, but at a really steep price.

This review is for the technician who came in the other morning and sorry I forgot about his name. He's very professional and explained to me about my lock very patient(I have a difficult electric lock) they charge a reasonable price $$ for changing a lock. Also I like their name because my cat's name is Artie too.

I called Artie's to change my deadbolt after an ex was stalking me. Luckily they showed up right away and changed it to a high security deadbolt for me. From the moment they arrived, I could tell I was in good hands. Quick service, knowledgeable technicians, and reasonable prices. Definitely feeling peace of mind after their visit. Call these guys if you need a locksmith.

These guys did a great job. Then a few months later when we thought the lock was broken again, they helped us realize it was just a setting on the lock that needed to be changed and sent us photos of how to adjust it which did the trick and didnt charge us anything. Very nice and helpful people.

Guy was outstanding. He showed up on time, put in top of the line hardware. The lock works beautifully. He was incredibly kind and worked diligently to get the job done in a very timely manner. Great service and well priced. I will use them again!

I highly recommend these guys. I've just had them at my place to fix a broken lock and they did a fantastic job. The guy who came was very friendly and charged me fair prices. The whole experience was not at all what I expected as I've heard horror stories about locksmiths. Happy to report Arties is the real deal.

I was locked out and called Artie's based on a quick Google search. The team was very responsive and showed up immediately. I was frazzled and the technician calmly walked me through the process to remove and replace the lock. I recommend Artie's to anyone NYC who gets locked out!

Excellent locksmith company. I first was locked out and hired another company that scammed me.overcharging for services and never getting me inside. Artie's was fair and provided superb service. Highly reccomend!

Great customer service. Spoke with the business after my concern that the cost seemed high and it was addressed immediately and rectified. The next day I received a handwritten thank you note and follow up! Super quick, efficient and friendly.

I called Arties on a Sunday night at 9:30p and not only they were prepared to assist me with a door knob falling off, thus causing a security breach but they followed up to ensure if I was okay and what I would like to do. Fortunately, I had the next morning off, so I had them come then. They did the job within 30 mins and yes, it was the best $175 I paid because it was no gimmicks but professionalism and they even adjusted my door. I would recommend these guys in a heartbeat (especially Avi-:)

These guys are quick, efficient and professional. Not to mention very nice. They definitely eased the stressful situation of getting locked out!

The guy came within a half an hour on a Sunday and did everything necessary (hence the extra star) - drilled out the lock, replaced the knob, lock and housing - but VASTLY overcharged me. He said $295 for drilling out the lock and a staggering $425 for installing the new lock. After calling around I've been told that the lock he used costs about $100, and the whole service should've cost about $300-400 total, not close to $800. Plus, another local locksmith said this guy isn't even licensed.

In short, he ripped me off big time. UPDATE: The business contacted me and explained that freelancers sometimes work on weekends. They've rectified the overcharge. Good customer service, all things considered.

UPDATE: Josh, the owner, called me immediately upon reading my original review to discuss the situation and figure out what happened. Apparently that night they were very busy and had used an outside contractor (who will no longer be contracted by them). Josh messengered over a partial refund immediately, as well. I appreciate the timely manner with which he rectified the situation! Thanks! ********************************************** Accidentally locked myself out of my apartment.

While on the phone they assured me that the contractor would be within 15 minutes. After waiting around and many confusing calls back and forth from the contractor and dispatch, my contractor arrived almost 45 minutes later than expected. The locksmith was very nice, and assured me that due to my wait he would not charge me for his service fees. He drilled the existing lock cylinder and replaced the lock, all of which took about 10 min, total. Somehow, despite "not charging service fees, " the total order came out to OVER $500, which is exorbitant and almost extortionist. TL;DR: Not timely and wildly unfairly priced.

Update review: josh contacted me immediately to handle the situation, get more clarity on what happened and apologized. Unfortunately that evening was super busy on their end so they had to send out a contractor who going forward will no longer he contracted to work with them. Josh and his wife personally came to replace the door knob and refunded me for what was charged. They were extremely nice, great customer service. The situation was a rare case so I would highly recommend Artie's going forward.

Update - I was going to delete this review but it is against the Yelp Terms of Service. Following my review we were contact by the Locksmith with an apology and immediate, hand delivered, refund by the owner of the company himself. I've changed my review from 1 to 3 stars. _____ This would be negative stars if possible. I'm not sure if Ben farms out his work to independent contractors or just won't stand behind is services.

Either way the work was shoddy, they were dishonest with use, rude, and they left us worse off than when we started. Promises of refunds were not honored and thus this review. They wasted days of our time when we needed to be at work appointments by showing up late and without materials. Ben is nice on the phone but he doesn't follow through and so I can only believe he is lying when he makes promises. Use them at your own risk.

I needed a new deadbolt added to my new apartment. This was the weekend before Christmas and other local locksmiths were either busy or didn't even both to answer their phones. I found Artie's on Yelp and was a bit worried about their quality, because there weren't many reviews at the time. Ram came and was super nice. He was efficient, gave me options and explained why the original lock that my apartment came with was such trash (he was not wrong), and was in and out in a reasonable amount of time. Artie's pricing is competitive and worked for my budget. I highly recommend them and simultaneously sincerely hope that I won't have need of their services again any time soon.
