The SimonsVoss 3060 digital locking and access control system is the electronic equivalent of a mechanical lock system with classic access control functions. Electronic transponders take the place of mechanical keys, digital locks take the place of mechanical locks. Radio communication replaces the mechanical operation of a key. Data is transmitted from the transponder to the cylinder or Smart Relay in the 25 kHz frequency range. Typical detection distances are 12 inches (30 cm) for the cylinder and up to 47. 24 inches (120 cm) for the Smart Relay.

Smart Relays enable overhead doors, parking barriers, and any other device that can be electronic switches to be activated by authorized transponders.

All of the components can be networked at any stage, including after installation, by means of cable and wireless networks (WaveNet) .

The whole system can be programmed using either a programming transponder (without a computer) , a programming unit and software, or via a network.
